The Bozeman Unit of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation has
received a request from the Gallatin Valley Land Trust for a public, non-motorized trail
easement. The trail would be located on State Western/Eastem Trust Lands in the W2W2NW4
Section 28, Township 2 South, Range 6 East in Gallatin County, southeast of Bozeman, MT.
The proposed trail easement on the State parcel would include the construction of—3340 feet of
new trail and the lands encumbered by the proposed trail (-4.9 acres). Gallatin County would be
the holder of the trail easement. Work would be accomplished with a mini-excavator and hand
tools.
The specific project objectives are to: (1) Realize the remaining connecting segment of the
"Main Street to the Mountains" trail system on the southeast side of Bozeman; (2) Designate a
responsible party- for the supervision and maintenance of the new trail; (3) Develop a
maintenance plan to ensure the long-term preservation of the new trail; and (4) Construct a
sustainable and maintainable new trail.
