Concisely, accurately, and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features
to correlate with the Site Map.
The building is a detached two-story telephone switching office built on a rectangular plan with a flat-roofed overhang
above the recessed metal front door. Right hand side of recessed area has built in wood phone booth built with bi-fold
wooden and glass door (payphone has been removed). Windows on both levels of the façade (west) are fixed and
casement. Single fixed windows on first level have ventilation louvers in place. The south half of the building is only one
story and wraps around south and part of east portion of building. East side of building has fixed encased windows and
entry door. The reddish-tan brick structure has an aluminum coping and sits on a concrete foundation with a reddish-tan
limestone veneer. The wall of the recessed entry area and foundation are surfaced with 12 by 12-inch sandstone tiles of
complimentary color. The entry area has a projecting cantilevered formed concrete roof above the concrete stoop. The flat
roof is of built up materials and lies perpendicular to Willson St. Building roof has tall steal truss tower with microwave
transmitter unit. The one-story portion of the building on the south measures 44 ft. n-s by 103 ft. e-w. The northern two-
story mass measures 54 ft. n-s by 84 ft. e-w. A smaller one-story projection added to the east elevation measures 25 ft. n-
s by 20 ft. e-w. Other than the later placement of obscure glass in some windows, alterations to interior and to rear (east)
elevation, the building has undergone very limited alteration since originally constructed.
Original windows on second floor are framed in a brushed aluminum. Replacement windows on first floor have anodized
bronze color, but of the same size and location. The original front, main entry doorway and door has been modified by
replacing the presumed glass entry door with a solid metal door with inset wall of terra-cotta block.

The 1957-59 revision of the 1927 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Bozeman (sheet 21) indicates the same building, in the
same location, orientation, and configuration, with notation that the building was built in 1955 as the Mountain Bell
Telephone Office.
The 1954 Polk City Directory for Bozeman (pg 221) lists the property at 114 S. Willson Ave. as being "under constructed."
The 1956 Directory (pg 161) lists the occupant of the building at the address as Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph
Company, Frank S. Mueller, Manager.
