Number the buildings and features to correlate with the Site Map. The building is a detached 1-story single-family residence. Façade faces east and S. Wallace Ave, and is formed of offset gable-end bays with twin sash windows on left and entry vestibule on northeast corner. Original entry was most likely open beneath the shed roof, but now is enclosed. The frame structure has a complex configuration due to multiple/successive additions to front and back. Massive second floor shed-roofed dormers have been added to the main roof to provide living space to the second floor (former attic). Second-floor vertically extended area is recent and is sheathed in T-111 plywood with modern windows. Gable roof to front and central mass have ridge lines running east-west. Original rear (west) portion has 1 1/2-story gable roof, recently expanded with substantial extensions to south and north. Exterior wall treatment is with horizontal pressed-board siding on vestibule and pressed composition (asbestos?) panels on rest. Foundation is of formed concrete. Foundation is of formed concrete. Newberry, a jailor at City Hall. Newberry and wife Carrie show in subsequent city directories through at least 1916. The 1891 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map for Bozeman shows a vacant lot at the subject address. The subsequent 1904 Sanborn map shows a wood-frame single story residence of the same configuration and location as the current house, with a one- story porch on the northeast corner. The 1927 Sanborn map shows that the original wood shingle roof was changed to composition shingles. Based on architectural style, construction methods and readily available historical documentation the building, in its original form, was constructed sometime between 1898 and 1901.
