Concisely, accurately, and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features
to correlate with the Site Map.
Building is a detached 2 story structure with a H-shaped plan (possible original L-shaped plan with additional projection)
that has been extensively remodeled. Building is constructed of wood frame with shiplap siding. Fenestration is
characterized by one-over-one double-hung windows. There is a leaded-glass fixed window on the east end of the façade,
on the post-1959 addition. The structure sits on a concrete foundation. The roof has gable ends on east and west with
intersecting gable. Original structure has gable ends on east and west with a gable end on the the projection to the south.
Multiple framed additions exist on the north side (1-1/2 stories) south side (1 story), and 1-1/2 story entry way on east side.
The exterior of the building and various architectural elements such as trim, windows, porches, etc. all indicate extensive
remodeling of the original historic structure. The two gable-end projections facing the east (N. Grand St.) have a modern
in-fill constructed of T-111 plywood above the original first-floor entry porch. Most of building has been resided with vertical
-groove T-111 plywood.

No building shows on lot in 1889 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map (sheet 6). 1 1/2-story dwelling of rectangular plan with rear
1-story projection on west shows in location on 1890 Sanborn Map (sheet 6). Addition to north of original building shows on
1912 Sanborn Map (sheet 12) and is the same configuration through 1927, 1942, and 1957 Sanborn maps. Original
additions, projections and enclosed porch were added after 1959.
The building was constructed by local builders Brandenbrug and Frank Vreeland as a residence for the Frank Vreeland
family. Vreeland, with his his architect-builder, Byron Brandenburg, build many residences and public/commercial
structures in Bozeman during the late 19th century.
March 27, 1890, Avant-Courier article describes construction of building by Bozeman builder Frank Vreeland in 1890.
The Polk City Directories for 1902 (pg. 169, 190), 1906 (pg. 193), 1908 (pg. 169- 170), and 11910 (pg. 167) all list Frank
Vreeland, a general building contractor, and various family members living at the residence at 103 N. Grand Ave.
