Concisely, accurately, and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features
to correlate with the Site Map.
The building is a 1-1/2 story single-family residence with a cross-gable roof with complex layout on a side-facing T plan.
Layout includes one-story shed-roof covered front entryway at southwest corner and covered rear projection at northwest
corner. Asymmetrical façade is on south and faces E. Babcock St. Small entrance with door and window is located on
southwest corner and faces E. Babcock St. Front portion of gable roof runs north-south with mid extension gable
extending to the east. Original wood windows and doors exist with detailed wood top trip and double-hung sash windows
throughout. Rear 1-story extension with gable roof, ridge line running north-south. Building is covered in recent stucco
surface. Small central brick chimney is located at intersection of cross-gables.
Foundation is obscured by recent stucco and landscape plantings.

The 1 1/2-story wood frame building of the same location, orientation, and layout shows first on the lot on as depicted on
the 1891 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map for Bozeman (sheet 8). The same lot on the 1890 map is shown as vacant. Readily
available historical information indicates possibly the first documentation of the building in the 1912 Polk City Directory for
Bozeman (pg. 148, 168), documenting the residents as Louis (a machinist) and Mary L. Shafer (widow of Charles F.
Shafer) and another resident, George L. Wheatley (foreman at the Northern Pacific roundhouse).
