Concisely, accurately, and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features
to correlate with the Site Map.
The building is a one-story commercial structure with a rectangular plan originally built as a automobile dealer, gas and
service station. Building is currently used as an auto mechanic shop. The asymmetrical façade (north) has one overhead
garage door and wood store front with entry doors and windows. Building is concrete and brick construction with formed
molding forming the main entry areas on the north and west. The roof is truss construction and is parallel to the street with
rear (south) portion having a flat built-up roof. The east wall of brick has a stepped parapet capped with glazed flanged
terra-cotta coping tiles. Concrete gas pump island base still exists on north, but gas pumps have been removed. West wall
has three roll-up garage doors, two windows, and two entrances. West wall has concrete stucco finish. South wall on alley
has same concrete stucco finish with two garage door entries. South wall also has terra-cotta coping tiles.

The 1927 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map for Bozeman (sheet 23) shows a one story brick and tile "Garage Cap[acity] 30
Cars" with a wood truss roof of the same location, configuration, and dimensions as the existing building (except no gas
pumps shown on the north side). The previous 1921 Sanborn Map (sheet 21) shows a smaller wood framed building on the
same lot. The 1927/rev. 1943 Sanborn Map (sheet 23) shows an outside gas and oil area at the front (north) of the
building.
The first entry in the Polk's City Directory for Bozeman describing the subject building is in the 1922 edition (pg. 219) with a
listing for Lund Virt classified under the Business Directory heading of "Automobile Dealers, Garage, Liveries and
Repairers. Additional references to an automobile garage under different names exist in the 1925 (pg. 45), 1927 (pg. 180),
1929 (pg. 188), 1931 (pg. 178) showing the first reference to an oil company (Mutual Oil and Garage) suggesting that as a
possible early date for modifying the building to provide gas and oil at the front, 1933 (pg. 163), 1935 (pg 175), 1940 (pg.
170), and later dates.
This information that the building with truss roof was built between 1919 and 1921, with its current configuration with
outside gas pump area at the front possibly being altered approximately 1929-1931.
