The building originally designed as a bowling alley by Fred Willson in 1947 for S. J. Halland. Original architectural drawings
indicates that building was constructed as planned, with only minor deviation from the plans -- mainly the omission of a
curved corner of glass block adjacent to the north entry.
"Bozeman Bowl opened Sept. 10, 1949, and was the first bowling alley in the state to have automated pinsetters, a
Brunswick model that they still use," (Bozeman Daily Chronicle Jan. 20, 2015).
The original business name was The Bowl, as indicated by Bozeman City Directories 1950 (pg. 32), 1952 (pg. 34), and
1956 (pg. 75). The Bowl, Inc. was operated by Herb P. Hruska (President) and Raymond T. Stewart (Treasure). As is the
case today, the original business provided bowling, food service, and drinks in the same configuration and layout that is
seen today.
