Number the buildings and features to correlate with the Site Map. The building is a detached 2-story single family residence with afront-facing 'L' shape plan and a hip roof porch across the front, on the interior intersection of the 'L'. The porch is supported by two square posts with simple detail trim. The asymmetrical façade faces the south and Main Street. The façade consists of an off-center front entrance with 1/1 double hung windows with exterior metal trimmed storm windows. The entry door has a transom window above. An additional entry door has been added on the west end of the porch to form a duplex apartment. A bay window is located on the first floor east elevation with three 1/1 double hung windows. The bay is topped with a small projecting hip roof. A pair of 1/1 double hung windows is located on the second floor gable end facing east. The front (south) gable end second floor window has been replaced with a recent fixed and hinged windows. The frame construction is finished in composition (asbestos?) siding and rests on a rubble stone and concrete foundation. The gable roof is covered with composition asphalt shingles and features boxed eaves. The rear (north) has a one story shed roofed extension. Rear of building has small projecting enclosed entry room. No out buildings. Foundation is obscured by landscape vegetation and stucco surfacing. Foundation Roof is surfaced with modern composition shingles. Roof Original front open porch within corner formed by front-facing "L" form. Rear porch has been enclosed with additional shed-roof extension. One modern fixed window has been added to the south facing gable-end façade. McCamman, who had the residence constructed sometime between 1880 and 1885. McCamman was an important figure in early Bozeman history. He was one of the first settlers in the Bozeman area in 1865. He was appointed Gallatin County Treasurer in 1875 and was elected County Clerk later that year. He also engaged in sheep ranching and money lending (Leeson 1884; Avant-Courier July 13, 1880). McCamman was the first secretary and treasurer of the Gallatin County Pioneer Society in 1894. In 1902, McCamman built another residence at 601 W. Main St. The building first shows on the 1889 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Bozeman in the correct location and configuration. It should be noted that the 1884 Sanborn map does not depict the extension of Main St. west of the then courthouse and jail yard, so although the subject residence was most likely in existence at that time, the map does not show that area.
