Number the buildings and features to correlate with the Site Map. The building is a 2-story multi family residence structure originally constructed in a L-shaped gable plan with front gable pent centrally located over the original façade. The present building has a full width 2-story rectangular projecting addition with gently sloping shed roof attached to the original façade. The exterior wall surfaces are covered with a non-historic composition (asbestos?) pressed panels. The original structure to the north (behind the front addition) has a cross-axial gable roof covered with composition asphalt shingles and features a gable dormer facing the front and a central small brick chimney. The main axis of the roof is parallel to Main Street. The axis of the rear L-shape projection runs north-south. West side of north projected roof has small dormer and hipped-roof enclosed porch with six 2/2 windows. A small shed roof addition is located adjacent to the north wall. The north-south projection of the rear-facing 1 1/2-story "L" has a single dormer on each of the west and east elevations. The foundation is not visible. Roof A rectangular wood framed gable roofed detached garage is located on the rear northeast corner of the lot and has a concrete block building attached on the south side. Main (1984 Historic Property Survey, City Sanitation Permit, Avant-Courier Sept. 30, 1880). 1889 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map for Bozeman shows a 1 1/2-story residence of the same configuration and in the same location, noting a possible error of labeling a 1 1/2- instead of 2-story building. The 1884 Sanborn map does not extend to the area of the property on W. Main St., hence does not show the building. From readily available information the building was most likely constructed between 1884 and 1888. All of these element contribute to a recommendation for eligibility for listing on the National Register. The building has undergone some changes with the removal of the original front porch, and the addition of the mass that now covers the façade. These alterations including some new windows, doors, composition siding, and roofing material are all removable and do not permanently obliterate much of the historic architectural fabric.
