Number the buildings and features to correlate with the Site Map. The building is a two-story multi-family residence, originally listed as a female boarding house on Sanborn maps. The building is currently used as a commercial property with offices. The asymmetrical façade consists of a square plan with an enclosed hipped-roof front porch in the interior joint of the "L" on the northeast corner, with a gable over door at the front entrance. The frame construction is finished in recent stucco, most likely added over the original exterior sheeting. Building features 1/1 double-hung and fixed windows with diamond pane leaded glass on the first floor. All windows have incorrectly-sized nonfunctioning louvered shutters. The foundation is rubble with front portion having a veneer of river cobbles. The ell-shaped double hipped-roof is finished in recent standing seam metal roof. the roof of the one story enclosed entrance is finished in modern composition shingles. The rear (south) and front porch additions square-off the original t-shaped plan. Exterior finishes and treatment of building is modern but floor plan, window, and door placement is all original. Rubble with some possibly new portions of concrete with veneer of cobbles. Foundation Compound hipped-roof following "T" plan of building, with modern standing seam metal roofing. Roof Enclosed front porch on northeast corner, with a hipped-roof, in the interior corner of the "L". The porch has a gable over door. Rear additions are square in shape with slightly sloping shed roof. Hence, the building was most likely in 1890. The Polk City Directories for Bozeman starting with the 1900 edition, show numerous boarders and renters at the address through 1918. Examination of Sanborn Maps, City Directories, and other information indicates that most of the structures on the south side of the 200 block of E Mendenhall St were listed as female boarding houses, some of which may have been brothels at specific times. Several such female boarding houses and Chinese rooming houses were located along the south side of the 200 block of E Mendenhall St. This building is a good example of that history with a structure that retains significant elements of historic architectural integrity.
