Number the buildings and features to correlate with the Site Map. Building is a large combination of rectangular blocks forming a commercial structure with projection on south and projecting entry vestibule on west. Building is constructed of concrete block on concrete foundation, exterior is surfaced with large (10 in by 4 in) bricks in stacked bond pattern. East (rear) end of rectangular block has height of 26 feet. North elevation (on alley) has large roll up loading door at east end, five glass block windows that measure 1 ft wide, 7 ft high, and one entry door. East end of building is approximately 26 feet in height, the remainder of building is 14 feet high. Flat roof is recessed behind parapet walls. Main entrance of building on west side constructed of four bays separated by brick clad buttresses. Fourth bay on southwest corner forms building main entrance with decorative brick supports and overhang. Northeast projection may have been built at a later time and consists of stuccoed panels between faux piers constructed of same pattern brick stacked pattern. dirt basement under stucco building, partial basement on north building. Concrete Foundation Flat built-up materials behind short parapet walls. Roof At-grade loading area adjacent to roll-up door at southeast corner. The 1957-59 revised Sanborn Map (Sheet 22) shows a rectangular reinforced concrete block building identified as "Printing" at the extreme south edge of the subject lot, with the northern half of the lot adjacent to the alley as vacant. The existing building now occupies the northern half of the lot with the south block and parking lot filling the south half of the lot. The 1959 Polk City Directory for Bozeman (pg. 24) lists the business location for the Chronicle at 32 S. Rouse Ave. Readily available information indicates the the current building at 32 S. Rouse Ave. was built for The Bozeman Daily Chronicle in about 1975. In 1997, The Chronicle moved to a new larger location at 2829 W. College St. At that time, the property at 32 S. Rouse Ave. was sold to the Salvation Army.
