Concisely, accurately, and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features
to correlate with the Site Map.
The building is a single-story commercial structure built on a square plan. The building was originally built as an
automobile garage with internal open plan with corner offices. The façade faces east on N. Willson St. and is asymmetrical
with a large offset enclosed/recessed entry near the northeast corner of he building. This entry has been obviously altered
from the original planns developed by Willson in 1928. Entry is flanked by a row of fixed windows to the left and a single
fixed window on the right. Fenestration on the façade has been updated from the original. Original openings for sash
windows are located on the north elevation. Roof is original truss construction with a double peak with two parallel gable
ridges running north/south. Portions of flat roof are located at the exterior ends and in the center between the two ridge
lines. Basic structure of building is brick as exhibited by exposed west wall. Exterior finish is recent stucco with brick
veneer wainscoting and false brick corner piers. There is a small square projection on the south wall near the southwest
corner at the alley. Note upper end of adjacent gables is visible at south end from ally. West wall of building exhibits
original brick pattern with concrete lintels above window openings and flanged terra-cotta tile coping atop exterior walls.
Flanged terra-cotta copping tiles were a characteristic detailed used on several Bozeman buildings by Willson, and here
are original to the plan. Recent large architectural windows (fixed and hinged) have been added to window openings.

A one-story automobile garage of same length but half the width of the existing building appears on the 1927 Sanborn Fire
Insurance Map (sheet 14). Records indicate that this original, smaller garage building was built in approximately 1922. The
sketch indicates the brick building had a wood truss roof on pilasters, and a wood floor. Bozeman Architect Fred P. Willson
developed detailed drawing for the existing building in 1928, showing a brick one-story garage building with double-line
wood-truss roof and concrete floor. The 1927/rev. 1943 Sanborn Map (sheet 14) shows the larger building with the
southern projections near the alley. Willson's original drawings in 1928 were supplemented with engineering and drawings
in 1948 and 1957.
The Polk City Directory for Bozeman for 1918 shows no entry for the subject address. The 1922 City Directory (pg. 52)
indicates the occupants of the building on the property (presumably the earlier, smaller garage) was operated by Deem &
Johnson, distributors of Studebaker cars, Goodrich tires, and providing automobile repairs. The 1925 City Directory (pg.
108) and 1927 directory (pg. 108) lists Charles R. Poor, Garage, at 25 Willson Av. N.
Architectural drawings indicate that building has undergone some changes in 1948 and again after 1957. Significant
alterations and remodels have occurred to the interior and exterior since the late 1980s, and more recently in the past 10
years. Recent changes include construction of a recessed entry on the façade, installation of new window openings
(loosing most of the original placement and configurations of the fenestration, application of exterior stucco surface, etc.
