Concisely, accurately, and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features
to correlate with the Site Map.
The property consists of a detached two-story single-family residence built on a rectangular plan with an enclosed flat-
roofed side entry with overhang on the east. Entry door to primary mass of building is at center of east gable-end
elevation. Additional entry (presumably to rental unit) is adjacent to main entry, within wood-frame flat-roofed entry
vestibule. The façade, facing north to West Lamme Street, is symmetrical and façade. The top of the second-floor
windows of the façade are placed under slightly raised shed-roofed "dormer" projections from the front eave of the main
roof. Brick chimney exists at the west end of main mass with another chimney at the rear "T" extension. Top half of
second-floor elevations and gable ends have a framed treatment with wood siding, possibly indicating a later conversion
from 1 1/2 to 2-story form. Property has a detached wood-framed double-car garage of of the southeast corner of the
residence.
The 1891, 1904, 1912, 1927, 1942 (rev.), 1957/59 (rev.) Bozeman Sanborn Fire Insurance map show the building as a 1
1/2-story "T" form of the building with a full-width 1-story non-enclosed porch on the north façade. This information
suggests that the east entry, east entry vestibule, and possibly the current roof configuration was added in the 1960's or
later.

Foundation
Roof of main (front) mass is a clipped-gable style with gables at east and west ends. Rear (south) projection is a standard
gable roof with ridge line running north-south. Main roof is covered with modern composition shingles. One-story framed
entry vestibule on east elevation has flat built-up composition roof behind framed parapet.

Enclosed wood-framed entry vestibule on east elevation extends south to south elevation of rear "T" extension. Detached
double car garage.

The property is historically significant because it was the residence associated with Rudolph Vogel, a person associated
with the early settlement and development of Bozeman, Montana. Vogel was born in 1852 in Switzerland and emigrated to
the United States in 1868, and to Montana Territory in 1881. In 1883, Vogel and his business partner, Fred Buchler,
opened the Tivoli Saloon in the present day 17 W. Main Street. The business was a popular gathering place for many
years. In 1883, Vogel purchased a ranch north of town and eventually moved to that location. Vogel kept the house on E.
Lamme St. until 1916.
The Polk City Directory for Bozeman and Gallatin Co., 1902 (pg. 293) indicates that Rudolph Vogel, a farmer, was residing
on his farm at Sections 31 and 32, Township 1 South, Range 6 East.
Polk Directories for 1892-93, 1900-01 (pg. 141), 1902 (pg. 124), and 1904 (pg 94) indicate that the John Davitt family,
including Leslie, and Clara) rented the house at the historic address of 214 W Lamme St.
