HomeMy WebLinkAboutBoard Objectives Discussion 2016 BOZEMAN HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARDS OFFICIAL NOMINATION FORM Please complete the nomination form below by February 12th 2016. We encourage you to complete multiple forms to nominate numerous buildings, structures, individuals, companies, and projects throughout Bozeman that represent the ideals of historic preservation. Please complete the below form and provide a minimum of three and no more than ten representative photographs of the category for which you are submitting. Before, during and after photographs are especially helpful in reviewing nominations. Any building more than fifty years old may be considered historic if it retains much of its original integrity. Winners will be selected February 12th 2016 and notified shortly thereafter. ☐ SUGGESTED AWARD CATEGORY (CHECK ALL THAT APPLY) OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION: Recognizes an exceptional effort in the preservation of a building or structure meeting the following criteria:  Adheres to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation (http://www.nps.gov/tps/standards/rehabilitation/rehab/stand.ht m)  Enhances the character of the property  Respects its context  Maximizes the retention of distinctive features that make the building or structure significant  Contributes to the building or structure’s continued use  Project completed within the last 3 years Eligible examples may include but are not limited to: buildings, bridges, monuments, or other structures. ☐ PRESERVATION STEWARDSHIP: Recognizes groups, individuals, agencies, or businesses that have positively impacted the City of Bozeman by advancing the public’s appreciation, understanding, and involvement in historic preservation or the conservation of living tradition. ☐ CONTINUED MAINTAINENCE: Recognizes an effort to actively preserve and maintain an historic building or structure for its continued use while respecting the building’s original character and its site. ☐ RESTORATION/REHABILITATION: Recognizes a restoration, renovation, or rehabilitation project which meets high standards of preservation, and that respects and responds to Bozeman’s unique cultural history and heritage. The awards are open to projects completed within the last three years. Nominations are reviewed by The Georgia Trust’s Preservation Awards Committee. Their recommendations of award-worthy projects are presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval. Awards are presented at The Georgia Trust’s Annual Award Ceremony held during the Spring Ramble. CATEGORIES: RESTORATION An accurate restoration project depicts the form, features and character of a historic building as it appeared at a particular period of time. Restoration requires sensitive upgrading of mechanical systems and other code- required work to make the site functional. REHABILITATION Rehabilitation projects make compatible use of a building through repair, alterations or additions while preserving significant features of the property that convey its historic value. PRESERVATION This category recognizes the appropriate preservation of historic resources and creative interpretations of historic sites. SUSTAINABLE REHABILITATION This award recognizes excellent rehabilitation projects that also incorporate appropriate conservation and sustainable treatments to lessen a building’s environmental impact while preserving significant features that convey its historic significance. PRESERVATION SERVICE Persons, groups, businesses and/or government entities that demonstrate exemplary activities and promotion of awareness in the field of historic preservation are recognized through this award. STEWARDSHIP This award recognizes those who ensure the preservation of historic properties through long-term care and maintenance, stabilization, protection or continuous family ownership. Additionally, the Awards Committee will select the recipient of the Marguerite Williams Award, The Georgia Trust’s top honor. This award is given to one of this year’s award recipients (person or project) that had the greatest impact on preservation in the State of Georgia. All nominees are considered for this award, no additional nomination is needed. Only projects completed within the past three years will be considered.  Project must be listed or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. (Visit www.achp.gov/nrcriteria.html for more information.) Nomination Requirements:  Form. Completed nomination form. (Please type or print clearly in pen)  Description. One-page project description. Include information on the building’s architectural style, history, date of construction, and details about the restoration/rehabilitation work. Also address the impact the project had in its surrounding community, and list any grants or tax incentives that helped make the project possible. If nominating a person, provide an overview of all that the nominee has accomplished in the field of historic preservation, with specific examples of their contributions to - preservation in Georgia.  Photographs. A minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 high-resolution digital images. Individual image files should be JPG format and at least 300 dpi. Do not submit images in a Word document or PDF file. Please provide a list of images with short captions and credits for each image submitted. If possible, include an overall view, at least two before images, two after images (taken from the same orientation as the before images), one historical image, close ups of architectural details, and photos of both interior and exterior details. These images need to give the Awards Committee an accurate impression of the project, well-lit subjects and a range of views both close-up and far away are extremely helpful. (Images are non-returnable. Submission of images by nominator constitutes a release-agreement allowing The Georgia Trust to use images for publication in newsletters, press announcements, etc.)  Fee. $50 application fee. Please make checks payable to The Georgia Trust. (Nonprofit organizations and government agencies are exempt from this fee)  Submission. If submitted by mail, a hardcopy and an electronic version of the nomination form and one-page project description must be submitted. Electronic material must be on a CD or jump drive. Materials that were not created electronically should be scanned for submittal. Hardcopies of images are not required. Nominations can also be submitted by email and no hardcopies are necessary. Nominators and award recipients will be notified approximately one month prior to the 2018 Preservation Awards Ceremony.
