Friends,
Last Evening's Vote on City Advisory Boards Affiliating with GAP
Mayor and Commissioners: Thank you for your vote last evening (Agenda Item F4)
approving the PTS, BABAB, and RPAB City advisory boards affiliating with the Galla10Alliance for Pathways (GAP) as "Affiliated Partner Organizations. It felt good to have a
favorable outcome to discussions with City staff that started way back on April 5.
We also want to thank Chuck Winn, Craig Woolard, and particularly John Van Delinderfor the favorable staff report proposing the City approve those affiliations.
The City's Strategic Plan
This is embarrassing. I have to confess that I have not been following this issue and, partially because of my vision, have not read the document. I also have to confess that I don't
even know the final outcome of last evening's Commission' discussion on the Strategic Plan. Iam going to assume that the document has not yet been totally finalized and minor
amendments can still be made.
For transparency, I must point out that the following comments are my personal opinionsand not officially positions of the Bozeman (Area) Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Committee
although I strongly suspect PTS would fully agree with the statements I am about to make.
The suggestions I heard Marilee Brown make during the Commission's "PublicComment" period suggesting that you make two specific generic references in the Strategic
Plan to separated paths sounded very appropriate and desirable. I encourage you to followthose two suggestions.
I also have heard that the Strategic Plan makes specific reference to the efforts to build
the Path to the M but makes no corresponding reference to the proposed separated shared-usepath along the frontage road between Bozeman and Belgrade. That second path has been
endorsed/approved by the Commission in both the PROST plan and the "new" TMP (as wellas by City advisory boards and other non-City planning groups such as the Bozeman
Transportation Coordinating Committee and the Belgrade City/County Planning Board). Given the Strategic Plan's specific reference to the Path to the M, the apparent omission of a
corresponding reference to the proposed frontage road path seems very unfortunate.
I personally urge you (the Commissioners) to amend the proposed Strategic Plan to bothmake the two generic references to separated paths that Marilee Brown suggested and to
include an appropriate reference to the proposed frontage road separated path. Thanks!!
