The primary goal of the City of Bozeman Affordable Housing Ordinance is to promote the
development of a variety of housing types, designs, and costs to provide a more diverse supply
of housing meeting the wide range of needs of Bozeman Residents. To achieve this goal it is
necessary to encourage an adequate supply of housing opportunities for low and moderate
income households. These housing opportunities can be in the form of for sale housing or
rental units.
To address the affordable for sale housing needs for the City of Bozeman it is estimated that
XX% of newly constructed homes should be marketed at prices that are affordable to
homebuyers with incomes at or below 100% of the area medium income. Of these homes 75%
of the units should be available to households making at or below 100% of the area medium
income, 20% should be available to households making at or below 80% of the area medium
income, and 5% should be available to households make 70% of the area medium income.
To address affordable rental housing needs for the City of Bozeman it is estimated that XX% of
rental opportunities should be at prices that are affordable to households with incomes at or
below 100% of the area median income. Of these homes XX% of the units should be available to
households making at or below 100% of the area medium income, XX% should be available to
households making at or below 80% of the area medium income, and XX% should be available to
households make 70% of the area medium income.
