Dear Friends and Members,
Gallatin Refugee Connections has been working for the past year and a half exploring the idea of Bozeman
becoming a host city for refugees. At the present, since we can’t have refugees here, we’ve decided to help Soft
Landing in Missoula by creating welcoming kits for their new families. Missoula has settled over 100 refugees in
the past year from Eritrea, Syria, Iraq, and Congo. Five new families will be arriving over the next few months.
Each family receives $1185 per person which has to last for three months. It isn’t much to cover rent, food,
transportation, etc. After three months, they are supposed to be self sufficient, so every little bit that we can donate
helps them a lot!
The Social Justice Action Committee has agreed to support this effort. I have attached the list of items for kits, and
also the priority items if you prefer to donate that way. I’d suggest working with several others if you want to make
a kit as they can be expensive.
We will collect the kits after service on Sunday, Nov. 12. That is also Pledge Drive Sunday, so there will be lots
going on! We hope to make this day a celebration of our commitment to UUFB and to the wider world. Please
contact me if you have questions.
Amanda

5 families
This November
This November, Gallatin Refugee Connections, in cooperation with
Soft Landing of Missoula and the International Rescue Committee (IRC), is
sponsoring a collection drive to help refugee families start their new lives in
Missoula. These families arrive with very little—sometimes just the clothes
on their backs. Soft Landing and IRC give them a start, and we mean to help!
We are collecting household goods to set up five newly-arrived families.
You can help! Team up with friends to donate an entire room kit, or just
donate an item or two. All donations are tax deductible.
On Saturday, November 18, 2-4pm (Cats-Griz Game Day!)
volunteers will meet at the Fork & Spoon Cafe (formerly Community Café),
302 N 7th, Bozeman to assemble kits for each room in the house.
Drop off your donations at the Fork & Spoon 2-4pm Nov. 18
or at collection points around the valley. If your church or organization
isn’t a collection point, contact us to find out how to become one!
For more info visit Gallatin Refugee Connections on Facebook or

Refugee Welcome Kits
Most refugees arrive to the United
States with next to nothing. Help
them rebuild their lives by putting
together a Welcome Kit. These kits
will help provide a “soft landing”
and allow them to save their money
for rent and food.
How to Create a Welcome Kit
1 Place items in a CLEAR plastic tub that can close (except oversized items such as brooms,
trash cans and diapers, indicated by an asterisk).
2 Label the top and sides of the container with the Welcome Kit name. Please do not tape
the tub closed.
3 Please purchase NEW items unless indicated. If donating used items, please make sure
they are only GENTLY used.
4 We also encourage you to include a hand-written, unsealed note welcoming the family.
We also encourage donations to meet ongoing needs:
❏ Diapers (especially sizes 1, 4, & 5)
❏ Baby wipes
❏ Laundry soap
❏ Shampoo/Conditioner (full size)
❏ Bars of Soap
❏ Dish Soap
❏ Lotion
❏ Feminine Pads
❏ Chapstick
❏ Cleaning spray
❏ Deodorant
❏ Band-aids
❏ Toothpaste/Toothbrushes
❏ Good quality winter hats, gloves,
snowsuits, boots, warm socks.
(Gently used items OK)
Other Items Needed*
(Gently used items ok) *Tub not required.
❏ Small kitchen appliances
(e.g. rice cooker, coffee maker, toaster)
❏ Vacuum cleaners
❏ Bikes
❏ U-lock bike locks
❏ Diapers and Pullups
❏ Underwear
