HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-18-17 Public Comment - E. Hosking - Black Olive IIFrom:eileen hosking To:Agenda Subject:Black/Olive Date:Wednesday, October 18, 2017 2:03:20 PM I write to urge the commissioners NOT to approve the current request to proceed with the project known as Black/Olive.This project is too large for the sight, out of context with the neighborhood, and inconsistent with peaceful enjoyment of their properties by owners in the area. It would also be a detriment to the general well-being of all downtown neighborhoods and to the continued prosperity of downtown Bozeman. I would hope the Downtown BusinessAssociation, the Chamber of Commerce and various economic development interests in Bozeman have become sophisticated enough to know that more and bigger do not equal better.Further, this developer is wanting in good taste and aesthetic sense. We don't need to conjecture on this as we have The Element Hotel and the new monster on Tracey andMendenhall Streets to concretize it for us. And, no, aesthetics is not entirely subjective. I challenge you to find anyone who might defend the Federal Building/PO on aesthetic grounds. Finally, in response to one of your member's lecture on the nature of American democracy, I would note that representatives in a representative democracy are expected to represent theirconstituents. They are not elected because they are considered smarter, better informed or more discerning than those who elect them, but to represent the voters' interests - not onlybusiness interests, but community interests above all. I believe that this community has made it clear that the success of Mr. Holloran in this project as it stands is not in the community'sbest interest. Eileen Hosking514 E Davis St
