Contemporary Native American Arts and Artists
Dr. Walter C. Fleming is department head of Native American Studies at Montana State
University and also serves as an associate curator of history at the Museum of the Rockies. He
is the author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Native American History, co-editor of Visions of
an Enduring People, and past president of the Montana Committee for the Humanities.
Carlin Bear Don't Walk is a Crow and Northern Cheyenne Artist from the Northern Cheyenne
Reservation in Busby, MT. His art is bright, vivid and energetic. It uplifts mind and spirit and
reflects contemporary and traditional Native American culture.

Casey Figueroa is a Contemporary Indigenous Painter whose family is from Mexico and has
Apache, Tohono O'odham, Yaqui, and Mexican ancestry. Casey's work examines
communication of Contemporary Indigenous Identity through visual expression. Bright and
colorful abstract paintings utilize a unique blend of modern and traditional materials and

Alisha Fisher is an undergraduate student from Montana State University, majoring in Studio
Arts with a focus in Printmaking. Alisha is from the Northern Cheyenne reservation in Ashland,
Montana. Her work focuses on Old Native American photos and the values of words.
Ben Pease Crow/Northern Cheyenne artist Ben Pease stands firmly upon the ideal of
education via creativity as a contemporary storyteller. His work is well known for its unique and
culturally relevant style using historic photographic references while also touching on current
