Dear City Commission,
I am unable to attend the meeting tonight so I would like to submit the following comment.
I urge the city of Bozeman to join and vigorously participate as a plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging the
constitutionality of Initiative 183 (the Montana Locker Room Privacy Act.) Furthermore, the interim city
manager should bring a resolution before the Commission appointing Alex Rate to represent the city in this
lawsuit. This initiative is designed to exclude transgender individuals from locker rooms, restrooms and other
public facilities that correspond to their gender identity. This initiative is a waste of taxpayers money as it is a
solution in search of a problem. To date there is no evidence that anyone has used the fictional “transgender
defense” for illegal conduct nor are there reports of any increase in public safety incidents in any of the
hundreds of jurisdictions that have extended legal protections to transgender people. The City of Bozeman
should join the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Initiative 183.
Thank you
Josh Olsen
