Dear City Commissioners, I live at 302 S. Bozeman Avenue, and wrote a letter last spring to
express my concern about the proposed development at the corner of Black and Olive. Therevised building plan has been slightly changed, but does not address the large scale of
concerns expressed by citizens of Bozeman. Part of the problem is the disconnect in the waythat we think about our neighborhoods. The request that was expressed over and over again,
was not to limit development of housing in our neighborhood, but rather to design andconstruct that housing in a way that fits with the character of the neighborhood, and in a way
that is cognizant of the infrastructure available in our part of the city. Andy Halloran'sresponse to our requests to scale back the size and impact of the building was that doing so
would make the building un-economic. And therein lies the disconnect. Those of us who showup for meetings and write letters to you think of these neighborhoods as our homes, where we
raise our family, and where we build community. When voting on the proposal tonight, youhave the decision to make about whether you think about the neighborhoods as the heart of the
Bozeman community, or as the empty tablet for people who are interested in making moneyhere. I ask you to require of Andy Halloran that his building being designed in such a way so
that the height, mass and scale are compatible with a transition from single-houses of theneighborhood to the buildings of the downtown, and that there is adequate parking on-site for
the tenants. Successful negotiations allow for all perspectives to be heard, and a compromiseto be reached that all parties can agree to. We have not seen much in the way of compromise
in the iterations of Black-Olive.
Thank you for your consideration,
