Dear Mr. Mayor & Commissioners,
I urge you to support infill and lead our community based on the vision we have articulated in dozens of plans, such as the
Community Plan, Downtown Bozeman Improvement Plan, and Community Climate Action Plan.
Common among these documents, which all received extensive public input, is support for infill because it is good for our
economy, our environment, and our quality of life.
Adding density in existing neighborhoods helps our vibrant downtown and other commercial centers, is better for the
environment by reducing sprawl and supporting walkable neighborhoods, and helps the supply of housing keep up with
demand and reduce costs. Focusing on building density up helps reduce the pace at which we will build out, protecting
the open space and agricultural lands surrounding Bozeman.
Though change is hard, we cannot have it both ways. We cannot be a diverse, dynamic community and not expect to see
new buildings, more neighbors, and increased traffic. We cannot shut the door to growth without shutting the door to an
economically vibrant future.
We can—and we must—rise to the challenge of growing thoughtfully and intentionally based on our expressed vision of
increased density in our downtown core.

change.
