Dear Commissioner Krauss,
I feel threatened. After the display of unchecked commentary during the City CommissionMeeting of Monday, September 18, 2017, I have chosen to write in the hopes that you and
your fellow commissioners will vote favorably towards approving the Black/Olive project aspresented on October 9, 2017.
The lack of decorum displayed that night of 9/18, where people were allowed to makeunsubstantiated accusations, speak/yell out of turn, and vocalize loud side-commentary while
others were speaking, all amount to blatant bullying. The subsequent soft-handed reproach, with no apparent consequences, only perpetuates this behavior, and makes those that play by
the rules feel vulnerable and unfairly represented.
Individuals against this project claim all sorts of falsehoods, vocalize vicious personal attacks,
and have disrupted our Bozeman community as a whole: these assaults should have no placein your decision-making.
Your approval should be based on the fact that the Black/Olive project very much fits in with
the character and context of the surrounding downtown neighborhood.
Opponents will mention the size and scope of this project is not congruent to their establishedresidential dwellings. They site as further examples that the 2 story Stiff Professional Building
and the very generously sized “3” story Blackmore Apartments are in keeping with theirneighborhood acceptability, but conveniently fail to mention that the 6 story Federal Building
and the 5 story Boulevard Apartments, which are within 1.5 block radius, are also very muchpart of their neighborhood’s character, as well. Black/Olive is an excellent candidate to
enhance this neighborhood’s residential dynamic.
The Black/Olive project is not a tipping point, but a great balance mirroring the growthhappening to the north of Main. It is time to equal the playing field and allow our downtown
to grow equally, on all sides, for all of Bozeman: and we shouldn’t be intimidated tothinking otherwise.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration,
Laura Ryan
