Subject:Regarding the planning issues in Bozeman

Hello,
As a young professional in Bozeman and a homeowner, I feel it necessary to share
my opinion regarding the development of the city I love and care about. I was born
and raised in Montana and it has been hard to see the state grow over the years -
there are many benefits but at the same time many sacrifices and changes that are
not for the better of Montana.
Regarding Bozeman, I feel that a dense, walkable downtown in the best option for our
community. Our community has already identified infill and high density and
downtown housing as priorities. Infill makes sense economically; a vibrant downtown
urban core is critical to attract and retain businesses and good jobs and increases the
supply of housing which will help make housing more affordable overall. Infill is better
for the environment creating housing in our urban core reduces the likelihood and
need for residential sprawl, which helps protect the wonderful open space and
agricultural resources surrounding Bozeman. Higher density and walkable/bikable
communities limit vehicle miles traveled and reduce greenhouse gas pollution while at
the same time preserving the farms and agricultural areas that make our state so
wonderful. Infill is good for the community and supports a strong quality of life.
This issue can no longer be ignored and Bozeman is not about to stop growing - we
want this to be a successful community that we are proud of that thrives.
Neighborhood growth helps make our businesses, schools, and culture stronger. As a
member of this community investing in my future and the future of my family, the
Commission should take proactive steps now to plan for our future.
Thank you for your time and attention,
Claire Kleese
