Bach - Road LitterFrom:orville bach To:Agenda Subject:Litter Problem Date:Thursday, September 14, 2017 2:23:38 PM Could you please put this on your agenda? I have noticed over the last few years a steady, insidious increase in the abundance and variety of litter along our roads. I frequently stop my car to pick up litter but it hasgotten to the point where it is overwhelming, and frankly it is quite shameful and embarrassing. We have the state's busiest airport. Imagine the PR hit we are takingwhen visitors travel from the airport into town along the terribly littered Frontage Road, or down sections of Valley Center, along Huffine, along the Interstate, the list goes on and on. Obviously, some of the worst areas are in the county. It is time for some proposals to come forward since we no longer live in a community where a sufficient number of citizens care about keeping the"nest" clean. The two things that immediately come to mind is to organize an "adopt a section of road" campaign so that area businesses, organizations, etc. willbe responsible for keeping segments of roads cleaned up. In return, a signs should be posted that give credit to the organization for these 2-4 mile stretches of road. The other thing that could be done is to allow prisoners to pick up litter to earn credit for reduced time sentences, etc. These are two techniques I have observed in other communities. SIncerely, Margaret C. Bach 197 Lamplight Drive Bozeman p.s. I live just outside the city limits but I do my shopping in the city. My grandkids attend school in the city. This needs to be addressed and placed on the agenda. Thank you.
