My experience with ADU's is limited, however, I did try to help my significant other navigate the process in a R1
zoned area with a conditional use permit. It was a tedious, expensive process with no clear indication of what the
outcome may be, even if one were to follow all of the rules.
Many of our R1 and RO zoned areas are near MSU. We desperately need housing in our town, especially near
campus. I understand the concept of residential areas, but if you look, you will notice that most homes near MSU
have apartments in them for rent. We need these. To continue to have a burdensome, expensive process is simply
counter-productive for our community and I strongly recommend we reevaluate what we allow in our zoning and
consider allowing one apartment in R1 and RO zoned areas in Bozeman.
