Dear Commissioners,
Ive been thinking about the arguments for all of the high rise building projects surrounding downtown; preventing
sprawl, creating diverse housing opportunities, and creating a walkable neighborhood that doesn't need parking
for cars and toys. And, then we allow all types of STR's in the B3 zone. The potential for these buildings to become
de facto hotels is quite high because the cost to rent or buy these units is way outside the affordable range for
most residents of Bozeman. Which means the concept of renting out rooms or units as an STR to help pay for the
rent or mortgage is appealing and likely. They will be purchased as investments or for in town visits when going to
the Opera or Symphony from those living in Big Sky or Yellowstone Club. Should this happen the arguments for the
buildings in the first place are moot .
You will need parking, and there will not be the number of diverse long term housing units that Bozeman needs
and was promised by the developer. He makes money and Bozeman gets a de facto hotel, congestion, vacation
rentals for those who are not contributing residents to our community. They do contribute but not as residents
with a long time vision.
I do not want to give up my light, mountain views, neighborhoods, Downtown historic character, community, and
the uniqueness of my home town of Bozeman, for false arguments!
Thank you for your considerations!
