National Neighborhood Day Proclamation Proclamation Recognizing National Neighborhood Day, September 17, 2017 Whereas, National Neighborhood Day is celebrated in neighborhoods across the country on the third Sunday in September; and Whereas, National Neighborhood Day is meant to inspire, build, and sustain neighborhood relationships that provide the foundation for civic action and the building of stronger, more caring, connected, and effective communities; and Whereas, as documented on the National Neighborhood Day website, communities work better (for example, students perform better, crime rates are lower, kids are safer, people live longer) when neighbors know one another better; and Whereas, city-recognized neighborhoods have existed in Bozeman since the late 1990s, the City of Bozeman Neighborhood Program and Inter-Neighborhood Council have existed since 2001, and there are now 14 neighborhoods officially recognized by the City of Bozeman; and Whereas, the mission of the Bozeman Neighborhoods Program is to enhance neighborhood self-reliance and overall community health by inspiring, building and sustaining neighborhood relationships. Now, therefore, as Mayor of the City of Bozeman, Montana, I do hereby recognize National Neighborhood Day, September 17, 2017, as a day to celebrate our neighborhoods by promoting and nurturing our neighborly relationships, and I encourage all community members, including homeowners, renters, and businesses to participate in Bozeman's Neighborhood Program through their existing neighborhood association or by starting a new one.
