Regarding the changes that the commission will be reviewing on August 24 that pertain to ADUs, I want to express
my support. Making ADUs more available to owners will help owners stay in their homes as costs such as taxes
continue to soar. In addition, it is a way for our historical areas to continue to change without harming the
historical nature of homes in the older parts of town.
Opposition to these changes represent an effort to freeze historical Bozeman to become a Williamsburg of the
west. This will result in even higher prices for homes in many areas. Please keep the process open and creative.
But there is a key problem in historical areas such as the Bon Ton. Right now all areas platted before 1997 must
have attached ADUs. This rule makes little sense if infill is the goal. The Commission should take a look at changing
this rule as well.
