HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-23-17 Public Comment - A. Kociolek - UDC UpdateFrom:Angie Kociolek To:Agenda Subject:UDC and beyond Date:Wednesday, August 23, 2017 10:03:44 AM Dear Mayor Taylor, Deputy Mayor Andrus and Commissioners Krauss, Mehl and Pomeroy, I am deeply concerned by the proposed UDC update and the rush to make it permanent. I feel like I need more time to be adequately informed about the ramifications of this UDC update as a guiding document for growth in the commercial-residential interface, specifically the language about block character, mass/scale and transition zones. I am a home owner in a prime, historic overlay neighborhood. I have no financial interests tied to Bozeman’s growth other than my primary residence. I am increasingly concerned about increased taxes that come with increased growth for infrastructure such as schools, street maintenance, sewers, law enforcement, etc. etc. But mostly, I am concerned that life in Bozeman will be forever changed because we weren’t strong or smart enough to stand up to the pressures of developers who seek to make huge profits from our collective loss. I ask that you do not rush your decision or make permanent any guidelines that threaten life as we know and love it in our core downtown area. Better yet, take this time to consider the resolution of your predecessor who recommends studying whether the predicted growth will actually serve the interests of the Bozeman community at large (eg., affordability, livability, socioeconomic diversity, etc.) and not just developers or those with out of state financial resources. http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/opinions/letters_to_editor/community-leaders-should-stop-out-of-control-growth/article_d9082f94-dc2c-50f0-8d57- c9c72802feb9.html#utm_source%3Dbozemandailychronicle.com&utm_campaign%3Dopnion-headlines&utm_medium%3Demail&utm_content%3Dheadline I cannot attend the meeting on August 24th so thank you for this opportunity to make comments via email.
