HomeMy WebLinkAbout17- Mayoral Proclamation - Regarding Domestic Violence �04.o� :r Proclamation Regarding Domestic Violence Whereas, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime; Whereas, domestic violence is widespread and devastating to communities as a whole; Whereas, survivors should have help to find the compassion, comfort and healing they need, and domestic abusers should be held accountable to the full extent of the law; and Whereas, our City and our County must dedicate itself to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community; Now, therefore, in recognition of the need to create a culture of nonviolence, I, Carson Taylor,the Mayor of Bozeman, declare and proclaim that the City of Bozeman stands with survivors of intimate partner violence, and promotes a culture of nonviolence. The City shall encourage all community members to: • Recognize and speak out against intimate partner violence, gender injustice and all forms of abuse; • Offer unconditional support to someone who has experienced violence; • Speak up against statements that promote violence; and • Help share resources with those who need help including: HAVEN's support line 406-586-4111; 911 in emergencies; and/or the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1-800-799-7233 Signed and Proclaimed this 7f day of August, 2017 Carson Taylor Mayor, Bozeman, Montana
