It was with dismay that I learned of the City's plan to split the 50 meter pool in half for nine
months each year. Dismay because the decision was made without any input from the citizenswho use the pool. I realize that the City has had trouble passing the Law and Justice Center
bond, and swimming pools were punted to a lower priority, but to remove the ability to swim a50 meter pool length is short-sighted and unfair to those who have loved swimming long-
course in Bozeman for decades. I have not come across a single recreational swimmer whoagrees that this plan is either good or fair.
How is it that such an important decision was made without asking users what they want? As
a taxpayer and a paying swim pool patron, this decision is shocking and saddening to me. Weare so lucky to have a 50 meter pool and to throw it away because we can't figure out a
schedule or work collaboratively with MSU to get age group practices in an already existing25 meter pool is nothing short of a poor use of City resources.
I would appreciate an actual public discussion and re-assessment of this decision.
