Subject:proposal to install wall halving the size of the swim center pool

Commissioners,
I learned yesterday from a fellow swim center patron that there is a proposal
to install a wall fixture, creating two small pools, and eliminating the 50 Meter pool at the Swim
Center
as it has existed since its creation. I strenuously object for several reasons.
First, the swimming experience is vastly more enjoyable in a long pool.
Second, there are numerous other short pools in Bozeman-Bogert, MSU, The Ridge, YMCA, and
many many hotel pools.
Third, there are many of us such as myself who took up swimming in our adult years due to
orthopedic injuries
which brought an end to our running, basketball, or tennis activities. A long pool eliminates half as
many turns at the wall,
and pushing off the wall is the only aspect of swimming my arthritic knee finds disagreeable.
Fourth, if this proposal has something to do with the desires of the Bozeman Barracudas coaches, I
find that rather
astounding given the Barracudas’ consistent statewide high rate of success every year.
Last, it seems that this proposal is relatively unknown to those of us who use the Swim Center
several times a week. I just heard about it yesterday.
