The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room,
City Hall lJuilding, Friday evening, February 20th, 1942 at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those beIng
present were Mayor &)8ch, Commissioner Landoe, Commissioner Sorenso!i, City Attorney Aitken,
City Manager Quinnell. Director of Finance Walter Davis anCl the Clerk, when the following
proceedings were had to-wit:
The minutes of the Inst regular session were read, and it was moved by Com.'TIis"'loner
Landoe, second ed by Commie sioner Sorenson tha t the minute:? be approved as read and the

A communication from Nfr. O. E. Sheppard was read renuesting that the City release
aD easement whi:ch it has for a ditch on a 20 acre tract of land that he is purchasing
from Ike and Helen Brady. This land adjoins the Bozeman Airport, and Mr. Sheppard wrote
that he could not get a clear title to the property until this casement was released. He
also indica ted tha t he W01) ld be willing to sell tr"B land to The 01 t:y of Bozeman for the
price he was paying for it.
It was moved b~7" Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Corrimisfioner Landoe that the Com-
munication be referred to the City Attorney for an answer and the motion was carried by
tPe' following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commis2ioner Landoe
arid Commis s loner Sorenson; thos e voting No, 'none.
Mr. O. E. Sheppard and .e;. F'. Bunker later appeared before the Commission to see if
the City would release the easement referred to above or if the Ci ty wOl.)ld purchase th:1.s
property. Mr. O. E. Sheppard stated he wO'Jld sell the entire 20 acre tract for ;1:;2000.00.
The Commission felt that the price quoted was greatly in excess of the value of the
property and a~reed to sta~d bv their motion to turn the matter over to Mr. Aitken, the
City Attorney. Thereupon, Mr. Aitken stated he W'ol)ld go ahead with the condemnation pro-
ceedlngs already instituted.
Mr. J. U. Stotesbury was present and stated he was interested in any developments of
the Airport.
Purc:::ase of Land Ac1,~oinlr:g Airport
The Manager stated that in r,:'ply to his re~'uest for information concerning state land
sales, he had received an application form from the State Land Board to be filled out re-
questing the sale of the quarter section of state land known as the Belgrade Airport. The
matter of purchasing this quarter-section was again discussed, and it was decided to advise
the State Land Board that The Cit;.T of BozemaD 1s interested in the purchase of this tract
as it will probably be needed for future development of the Bozeman Airport, and thnt
shol11c1 the land be advertised for sale at any time the Clty be notified so th8.t it can
bid to protect its interest.
Dean Ch8ffin, Chairman of tne Airport Cornmis sion, was present and ,s ta ted he fel t the
Ci ty and County should formulate a plan for the sponsoring of the Airport. Mr. Chaffin
was informed that the Airport Commission was working on this mattor.
Report
The report of the Employment Officer for tho month of January was presented. It was
moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the report be accepted

Commun lc<,,\ t ion - - Jr. Chamber of Commerce
A communication from the Jr. Chamber of Commerce was read requesting The City of
Bozeman not to permit the showing of a carnival withIn the City thirty days previous
to the week beginnIng July 27th, 1942, which is the week of the annual Bozeman Roundup
sponsored by the Jaycees, and stateinp: that the City has granted them this favor in the
past. After discus sion , it was moved by Commis sioner Landoe, seconded by Commis sioner
Sorenson tbf?t The City of Boz eman co-opera te in this matter wi th the Junior Chamber of
Commerce in sponsorin~ their annual Bozeman Roundup, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote; tl~ose vot'ing Aye being ~,:Tayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson
and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none.
Extension of Garba~e Contract
The Manrlger s.tated that during the past week he had talked with Mr. Julian Tales
regarding the extension of the contr8ct for the hauling of garbage until ,July 1st, 1942;
that Mr. Miles had stated he would extend the present contract until July 1st, 1942,
provided the four men employed would be given a wage increase equal to the increase given
City employees, which would mean increasing the present contract $40.00 per month.
It was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the con-
tract with Julian S. Miles, for garbage hauling be extended to and including .Tune 30th,
1942, with an lncrease of ~~40.00 per month over the present contract, and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and ~"o vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Com-
mls s loner Sorenson and Commlss:loner Landoe; those vo ting No, none.
Bids for Police Car
The Manager read the tabu18tion of bids, submitted at the regular meet:inrr of Febru-
ary 13th, 1942, for a police car. After d:ts cu ss ion, there was some que stion as to the
ablli ty of the generfl tors a ttached to the anto be lng able to carry tr.e heavy load required
for radio equipment and other police use, and it was decided to investigate the matter
further before a dec:lsion is reached. It was moved by Commis ~l ioner Landoe, seconded by
Commis:odoner Sorenson tha t the ma tter be tabled until the next meetlng and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and 1"0 vote; those voting Aye being !\~ayor Busch, Com-
missioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none.
