Dear City Commissioners,
I have just learned of the plan to split the Bozeman Swim Center pool into a short-course (25 m and
25 yard lengths) via a semi-permanent wall and write in hope that another solution to crowding may
be found that maintains regular access to 50 m lengths for community members. When I moved to
Bozeman 17 years ago, I was delighted to find that my new home included such an amenity as a 50
m pool. It is a true luxury that I hope can be preserved.
While Bozeman’s growth means I now share lanes with more swimmers, observing pool rules
(swimming in the round, speed indicators, etc) and the use of common courtesy allow me to do so
successfully. I have often swum until the time when the lengths are switched to widths for those
who prefer shorter distances, have taken my kids to play at open access times, and have been
grateful for the mix of swim abilities and options the pool has provided.
I would hope that 50 m lengths can continue to be part of the mix for all community members.
