Subject:Fwd: [bozone-orgs] Tear Down the Swim Center Wall - Please Let the City Commission Know

Good morning:
I wanted to echo the concern below about transforming Bozeman Swim
Center's 50-m pool into two shorter pools by placing a wall through it. Ihadn't heard this was happening, but I request an opportunity for the
community to weigh in on this decision. I, too, share the belief that the
50-m pool is an incredible and unique community asset, and I would be
dismayed to lose this asset. If enough folks in the community share thisconcern, I would hope the city would be willing to reconsider its decision.
Thank you for your attention.

Dear Bozeman Swimming Community
If you love swimming, then you realize how precious a recreational resource our city has with its 50 meter pool.
As you may have heard, the Swim Center will be installing a semi-permanent wall cutting the pool into 25 meter and 25 yard
lengths. I believe this proposal was presented within the City's property/infrastructure improvement budget process. I don't
believe this decision included input by the wider Bozeman swimming community. Bozeman has a unique recreational asset
that few cities in the nation of its size possess -- an indoor 50 meter pool. You would have to drive to Calgary Alberta to find
the next indoor, open access community 50 meter pool.
I understand that the demands on the pool are increasing but splitting the pool diminishes the quality of the community's
swimming experience. The argument that the pool split will increase swimmer access to lanes and decrease swimmer
congestion...will do the opposite. Aggregating people into shorter distances will only increase swimmer frustrations with
crowding.
I apologize if my concern does not resonate with some of you. I am open to sharing the pool season...but nine months of short
course for 2.5 months of long course (given the summer pool closure) is not a fair trade for a diminished swimming
experience.
As a pool enthusiast, I would hope other enthusiasts share my sadness in seeing this new direction in our community pool. If
you feel like I do, please voice your concerns to City Commissioners Chris Mehl and Carson Taylor at
https://www.bozeman.net/government/city-commission/contact-us
or send an email to agenda@bozeman.net with a brief statement of concern.
Please don't let our community pool slip into becoming a lowest common denominator asset....tear down the wall. Thank you
Gary Tabor
