Dear Commissioners:
I urge you not to accept the Olive Black apartment proposal. As many others have commented, it is totally out of
proportion to its surroundings -- in terms of height, mass, and transition to the surrounding neighborhood. It will
create traffic and parking problems. It will not alleviate housing shortages -- the apartments will be expensive,
affordable only to the wealthy, and create pressure to remove adjacent homes for more high-rise pricey enclaves.
It is not the city's duty to create density to support the proliferation of bars, bistros, boutiques and galleries on
Main Street.
I used to think that destruction of agriculture lands and open space by sprawl was the worst aspect of growth. Now
I've come to believe that destruction of neighborhoods is at least as bad. Pleasant neighborhoods, like the one
around the Black-Olive proposal, are one of Bozeman's chief assets, making it a desirable place to raise children,
relax after returning from work, or enjoy retirement.
Please do not precipitate the destruction of our neighborhoods by replacing attractive, well-maintained and loved
middle-class homes with expensive, exclusive, unappealing, oversized behemoths exemplified by the Black-Olive
project.
Respectfully,
Anne Banks
