Pohl - Black Olive IIFrom:kelly pohl To:Agenda Subject:City Commission Black Olive Public Comment Date:Friday, August 04, 2017 11:45:18 AM Dear Commissioners, I urge you to support the proposed site plan for Black Olive. Walkable, vibrant, diverse neighborhoods are critical to Bozeman’s economic and cultural success, and high-density infill projects will help ensure that as Bozeman grows, it maintainsits quality of life. Project like this: · Are good for the environment by minimizing the environmental and economic consequences urban sprawl into our valley’s prime agricultural land. · Reduce dependence on motor vehicles. This is good for our health, our environment, and a proven contributor to quality of life. · Protect the economy and culture of our vibrant urban core. Higher density developments help accommodate our growing population and keep our neighborhoods active, socially and culturally diverse, and economically viable. · Are smart economic decisions. The tax value created by high-density neighborhoods, as compared to the cost of services and infrastructure development for exurban neighborhoods, makes sense for the City’s bottom line, and thus for all taxpayers. I reject the notion that Bozeman needs to be “saved” from high-density development. I live in a single-family home adjacent to high-density apartments and multi-family complexes (R3 andR4). This density and diversity of this housing benefits my family. We enjoy the economic vibrancy of our neighborhood; can walk to schools, parks, shopping, and bus stops; and mostimportantly learn from and enjoy the social and cultural diversity among our neighbors. The trend of growth here is unlikely to stop anytime soon. Let’s be a community that embraces thoughtful, progressive change—not one that closes the door.
