HomeMy WebLinkAbout1946-10-01 Bozeman, Wontana 3:J~l October 1st, 1946 The Commission of the Cit~,. of Bozeman met in special session, in the Commission Room, Ci t:.r Hall Building, Tuesday afternoon, Dc tober 1 st, 1946, at 2:00 o'clock P.M. Those being present were Vayor Healy, Commissioner Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe, City Manager Quinnell, H. B. Foote of the State Board of Health, Dean Cobeligh, Earl .r. Thomson r~presenting Burns I & McDonnell Engineering Company and the Clerk, when the following proceedin~s were had: Mayor Healy s ta ted this mee t. ng had been called to discuss the proposed sewage trea too ment plant for The City of Boze!1"an and City Manager \:luinnellexplained that, if possible, a way must be found to take care of the City's sewage at a lower construction and mainte- nance cost than that proposed by Burns & McDonnell in their first report; and that the said cost must be one that the people of Bozeman would be more willing and able to pa y . Mr. Thomson, explained tha t the plan proposed b.- his firm was based on the recommen- da ti.ons of the State Bosrd of Health; which according to their interpretation meant com- plete treatment. He said that the plant was therefore designed along those lines, bu t tha t his firm would design any type of plant that would meet the requirements of the St8 te Board of Health and The City of Bozeman and one that could be more readily financed. Different methods of treating the sewage was d1scussed at length and it was decided tha t an economic st11dy of the possibili ties of partia 1 purifiea tiOD methods and the use of eholorine should be made by the engineering firm and th9t the State Board of Health would make chemical analysis of local sewage samples to aid in determinIng the most economical type of plant to construct with the lowest maintenance cost. Reports covering ,I these studies to be submitted to the City Commission in the near future. Mr. Roy Spain and Mr. G. Hermanson of the Pictsweet Foods, Inc. were present to dis- cuss the trea tmen t of the cannery sewage. Different ways and means of handling cannery waste was discussed, and it was thou~ht th8t the sewage from their plant should be handled by lagoon:tnp.-, however, they stqted that all the wa ter the y used wa s cholorina ted a t the plan t, and that therefore, the B.O.D. was no doubt lower than at other pea canning estab- Ii shmen t". It was decided than an analysis of their sewage should be obtained before further recommendations WAre made for the treatment of the sewage from the canning plant.
