HomeMy WebLinkAbout1946-04-19 340 Bozeman, Montana April 19th, 1946 The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commiseion Room, City Hall Building, Friday evening, April 19th, 1946, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being present were Mayor Healy, Commissioner ';;;;'orenson, Commissioner Lowe, City Manager ~uinnell, City Attorney Aitken, Director of Finance Walter Davis, and the Clerk when the following proceedings were had to-wit: I The minutes of the last regular sesmon were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the minutes be approved as read, and the mo- tion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Applications for City Licenses The following applications for City Licenses were presented and read: C. D. Pons J. W. Russell Park Barber Shop Utility Repair Shop It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the applications be approved and the licenses issued and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; tho se voting Aye be ":_ng Mayor Heal~;r, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Recommendations from Adjustment Board The following communication from the Adjustment Board pertaining to matters considered at its meeting of April 18th, 1946, was presented and read: In the matter of the petition of the Gallatin Farmer's Co~pany to extend the Main Business District to include Lots 17 & 18; Block H of Rouse's Addition, "the Board of I Adjustment recommends to the City Commission that the boundary of the Main Business Dis- trict be extended to include Lots 17 & 18; Block H; Rouse's Addition, PROVIDED the use of the present above-ground storage tanks be discontinued and the tanks now :tn use at tha t loca tion be removed from the premises." It was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the recom- mendation of the Board of Adjustment be ordered filed pending action by the Gallatin Farmer's Company in compliance wi tb the provisions of the recommenda tions of the Board of Adjustment and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commis~loner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. - The Board of Adjustment also recommended that the petition of Jolm Karp to have the Karp's Addi tion and some property ad joining included wi thin the boundaries of the "B" RAsidence District be granted. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commis- sioner Sorenson that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare an amendment to Zoning O(['dinance No. 711 extending the boundary of the "B" Residence Dis trict as'set forth and described in the petition and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those I voting No, none. Patrol Car for Police Department Mr. Dean Chaffin and Chas. Turner of the Northern Auto Company were present and stated they would like to have the City of Bozeman use the Chevrolet car sold by their company for the Police Department on a monthly rental basis. He was asked to submit his proposition in writing to be approved by the City Attorney for consideration of the Com- mis sion, a t the next regular mee ting. - --- - --- ------------ ~3,Jl Housing for Veterans Mr. Bert Griffin, of the Chamber of Commerce was present to discuss the applica tion for temporary housing for veterans with the Commission. City Attorney Aitken reviewed the application and stated why it was not legally possible for the City to sign the application as presented or in its present form. Mr. Griffin stated he felt the American Legion, being a non-profit organize tion could and would sign and submit the applic,g tion for veterans I housing. It was thought that an informal meeting of City Officials, the Legion and Vet- erans Advisory Board could be held Saturday at 1:00 P.M., to co-ordinate the housing project and submit the required application to the housing authority before the first of the week. Gas Fitter's Bond and Plumber's Bond -- J. S. Budd Bonds of J. s. Budd as a Gas Fitter and as a Master Plumber in the amount of $2000.00 and $500.00 respectively were presented. The bonds were approved as to form by the City Attorney, whereupon, it was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the bonds be approved and accepted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Rental of Community Room at Armory A communication fro~ R. J. McKenna of the AAA, asking to lease the Community Room in the Armory Building for another 12 month's period, was presented and read. It wa s moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that an offer to extend the present lease agreement for the fiscal year ending. June 30th, 1947, for the use of the Community Room at $25.00 per month be forwarded to Mr. McKenna, and the motion was carried by the I following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commissioner Sorenson, and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Removal of Bell Tower The City Manager stated he had received an offer from a responsible person to remove the bell tower, the use of which has been abandoned by the Fire Department, for the lumber in the tower. He stated further that as the condition of the tower's foundation was not good, it was thought the s truc ture should be torn down. The Commission expressed them- selves as being in favor of having the tower removed on the above-mentioned basis. Purchase of Graphotype Machine The offer of the Addressograph Sales Agency to furnish a graphotype machine for the for $790.00 City of Bozeman/to be used for the preparation of addressograph plates was presented and read. It was moved by 00mm,issioner Lowe, seconded by Commiss ioner Sorenson tha t the City Manager be authorized to purchase this machine and the motion was carried by the following A ye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commissioner Sorensnn and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. I AY.lWA Meeting Ifhe City Manager reported on the Sewer and Water meetIng he attended in Butte, on April 10th to 13th, 1946. Use of Drill Hall The Manager stated that the Junior Chamber of Commerce would like to use the Drill Hall, May 18th and 19th, for the Sta te Jacyee Convention. The Commission stated it was agreeable to permit the Jacyees to use the Drill Hall, free of charge, during these two 349 -"~ days of their state convention. Ad ,j ournmen t There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Sorens m that the meeting adjourn anci the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those vo ting No, none.
