The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room,
City Hall BUilding, Friday evening, May 17th, 1946, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being present
were Mayor Healy, Commissioner Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe, City Manager Quinnell, City

Attorney Aitken, Director of Finance Walter Davis, City Fngineer fhorpe and the Clerk,
when the following proceedings were had to-wi t:
I The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner

Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion
was carried by the following Aye apd No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commis-
sioner Sorenson anti Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
Water Service to Pole Plant
Mr. R. McFarland and Mr. Hunter, of the L. D. McFarland Company, were present to dis-
cuss with the Commission the possibD..ity of getting a 4" water line, for fire protection
and indus tria 1 use, to their pole processing plant east of the Northern Pacific depot.
'" They stated they were having more equipment shipped in, and in case of fire, the logs would
burn rapidly because of the method of piling the poles for curing. The City Manager re-
ported that he was going to have a talk with the N. P. Division Engineer in Livingston on
Sa turda y morning, the ~18 th, regarding an old 4" water line on the ra ilwr:1. y company's righ t-
of-way to see if this line would be available for fire service at the pole plant.
Those present a Iso asked if City equipment could be used to spread gravel for road
improvemen t to the plan t, prOVided the gravel was furnished by the railway company. The
-I gentlemen were informed that the City would do what it could to help in these matters.
Engineer4ng Work for Sewage Plant
Mr. John Morrison and Joe Murrelli, Consulting Engineers, of Helena, Mon tan a were
present and stated they would like to be considered for the engineering work for the City's
proposed sewage ,treatment plant, stating they had many contacts in the state that would be
of va I u e ; that they were a firm located in the state and felt they could give The City of
Bozeman a very satisfactory job.
The gentlemen were informed that no one has as yet been engaged to do this work, but
tha t Burns & McDonnell, Consulting Engineers, of Kansa s Ci ty, Missouri, had been invited
to submi t a proposal for this work and the t they wer'e sending a representative to Bozeman

next week to consult with us regarding this work. Mr. Morrison and Mr. Murrelli were
advised th8t their offer would be considered.
Agreement -- Masonic Lodge ,I}, Ci ty of Bozeman
A revised agreement between Gallatin Lodge No. 6 AF & AM and The City of Bozeman,
whereb~ the City takes over the maintenance and sale of lots in the Old Mas~nic Tract in
the Sunset Hills Cemetery was presented. It was s ta ted that the agreement was subs tan tia lly
'I the same as the one approved a few weeks ago, and it was moved by Cornmissi oner Lowe, seconded

by Commissioner Sorenson that the Mayor and the Clerk be authorized to ~ign the new agree-
ment for The City of Bozeman and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote;
those votinf Aye bein7 Mayor Heely, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those
voting No, rone.
Resolution No. 572 -- Assessment SID 338
The Manager stated that this was the time and place set for the publiC hearing on the
final adoption of Resolution No. 572, levying the assessment for the construction of Special

Improvement District No. 338, a sanitary sewer in
the affidavit of public,'"tion of the Notice and stated that no protests had been filed and
no one was present to protest. He presented Resolution No. 572, en ti tIed:

ASSESSING A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF TAXES UPON ALL THE PROPERTY IN SPECIAL IM-
PROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 338, IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STA TE
OF MONTANA, TO DEFRAY THE COST OF CONSTRUCTING AND MAKING THE IMPROV:&'"'MENTS
WITHIN SAID SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 338.
It was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Lowe tha t the resolu- I
tion be finally passed and adopted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No
vo te; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commissioner ~orenson and Commissioner Lowe;
those voting No, none.
Mee ting Night
The Manager stated that in line with the discussion some time ago, cards have been
received from other cities giving the day and time of their regular council meetings. The
cards were presented and r8ad, and after some discussion, it was decided to postpone fur-
ther action in the matter for another week.
Bond -- L. S. Thorpe, City Engineer
The bond of L. s. Thorpe, as City Engineer, in the amount of $1,000.00 was presented.
The bond was approved as to form by the City Attorney, whereupon, it was moved by Commis-
sioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the bond be accepted and ordered filed
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor
Healy, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
Communic8tion
A communication from Mr. A. .T. Hill, 909 West Dickerson, was read, suggesting that I
an ordinance be adopted to provide tha t all unpaved s tree ts wi thin any paving improvement
district be included within the district to prevent cross-streets not being paved, and
also stating that measures similar to this have been adopted in other cities. The Com-;
mission stated they would be glad to hear further from Mr. Hill in regard to this m~er
at some later meeting.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Oommission at this time, it was
moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded b;; Commis s ioner Lowe that the meeting adjourn and
the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy,
