Tra ffic -- Trucker's COITIrrittee
A committee comp08ed of Doug Ferguson, Wm. Breck, C. E. Hall and Lester Gee, representing
the truck drivers within the City was pre8ent and stated that their appearance before the
City Commission was the outcome of a meeting of truck drivers called by the Chief of Police.
They stated they had problems involving traffic &Jring their loading and unloading operations,
and were trying to find a solution to the problem. They thought that parallel parking was
the solu tion, as many business placed do not have a back entrance for unloading; and that
parallel parking would give more room for the movement of fire equipment and ambulances
besides giving more space for unloading trucks. They stated further that the present traffic
ordinance made it unlawful for a vehicle to park in the alley in such a manner as to lea ve
less than ten feet width for the movement of passing traffic and it is not possbile to do
this with the width of the present alleys in th e bus i!l ess dis tric t.
The committee was informed tha t the city will try to work out the traffic problems
I satisfactorily as they arise following the installation of the parking me ters. It was also
suggested that the Committee submit its other suggestions for the traffic solution to the
CommiSSion in wri ti ng.
