HomeMy WebLinkAbout1945-08-24 2()~~ Bozeman, Montana August 24, 1945 The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Friday evening, August 24th, 1945. at 7:30 o'clock F. M. Those being present were Mayor Healy. Commissioner Sorenson. Commissioner Lowe. City ~~&ger Quinnell. City Attorney Aitken. Director of Finance Walter Davis, City Engineer Thorpe and the Clerk, when the followinL proceedings were had to-wit: The minutes of the last reGular session were read. and on motion by Commissioner Sorenson. seconded by Commissioner Lowe, were unanimously approved. Application for construction of Tourist Court Floyd Sumner appeared before the Commission regarding the construction of' his Tourist Court on North Seventh. He presented a petition, asking to have the alley in Block 2, Violet Addition vaCated. Mr. Sumner explained that he owned the entire block through which this alley passed. and it was pointed out that the Milam Greenhouse had'been built so as to prevent the prolongation of the alley northward. It was thereupon moved by Commissioner Lowe. seconded by Mayor Healy. that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare a resolution of intention to vacate the alley as requested. Said resolution to be passed on at the next regular meeting of the Commission. Ordinance No. 735 - - Amending Zoning Ordinance No. 711 1<;. A. Rowe, 618 West Babcock. appeared before the Commission regarding the passage of Ordinance No. 735 amending Ordinance No. 711 so as to make the south half of Block F of the Story Addition a part of Business- Residence District No. 2 in the City of Bozeman. Since only two Commissioners were present. one having been excused, action was delayed until the next regular meeting of the City Commission. Courtesy Stickers for Convention Guests Chief of Folice, A. N. Haas. appeared before the Commission relative to Courtesy Stickers for conven- tion guests. It was agreed that the stickers should be used and that the PoliCe Department would extend all possible courtesies to the visitors. The matter of over-time parking was discussed but definite action was I-ostponed until the next regular meeting of the Commission. Alley - - Block 6j Babcock and Davis Addition G. D. Forter appeared before the Commission in regard to opening the alley in Block 6, Babcock and Davis Addition. He was informed by the City Attorney, that as so much of the property was mortgaged. it would be difficult to get deeds for the necessary ~ight-of-way. However, there would seem to be no legal objection to abutting owners setting their fences back and using the strip thus vacated, for alley purposes. RelJorts The report of the Director of Finance and that of the Sanitary InsFector for the month of July. 1945 were presented and read. Upon motion by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Mayor Healy, the reports were accepted and ordered filed. Fire Insurance on Trucks The City Manager presented a fire insurance policy on city owned cars and trucks. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe and seconded by Mayor Healy, that the insurance be approved and the motion was carried. Meeting - Great Falls A communication from the Fresident of the Montana Municipal League inviting city officials to attend the League meeting to be held at Great 1"alls on September 14th and 15th was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe. seconded by Mayor Healy, that the City Manager and City Attorney be authorized to attend this meeting and the motion was carried. Walk and Curb Notices An order was made by the members of the City Commission, that all property owners be notified and I I I I I I ordered to repair, replace or construct sidewalks or curb fronting or abutting their property. It was thereupon moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Mayor Healy, that notices be sent to all property owners whose names appear on the City Engineer's list of defective walks and new walks to be constructed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Conunissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Weed Assessments The City Manager presented and read a resolution levying special assessments for weed removal during the year 1945. A motion by Conunissioner Lowe, seconded by Mayor Healy levying weed assessments for the year 1945 in accordance wi th the provisions of Resolution 560 carried unanimously. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Board of Conunissioners at this time, on motion by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Mayor Healy the meeting adjourned.
