Ladies and Gentlemen of the Commission:
I attended the Commission meeting July 10, 2017 regarding the above Subdivision. I
must say I was very disappointed that the Board's decision had already been made and
it was a waste of the attendees time and effort to attend and plead their side of the
case.
First, one of the Board members testifying "for" the subdivision appeared to be a conflict
of interest. I would think the Board members would have an open mind and feel some
allegiance to surrounding neighbors whose property values will be impacted. Approving
400 and 600 sq. ft. units on one lot will be a degradation of a nice neighborhood putting
up cramped houses that look like Virginia City houses built in the early 1900's.
Meanwhile our tax bills continues to increase putting financial pressure on retired
elderly while actual property values will undoubtedly decline.
While you pat yourself on the back for approving the lot split of a standard lot to provide
two sub-standard low income houses, you might give some contemplation of your
obligation to the existing neighborhood and the impact your decision will have.
Who will be the recipient of the grandiose idea of "garage size" units? They would
certainly not be adequate size for a family. If they can only afford these miniature size
units at a reduced price, how will they afford to pay for water, sewer, garbage and taxes
- county and city - which have a habit of escalating every year to support some of your
"hair brained ideas"?
I'm sure my letter will hit the waste basket but I feel you have wronged our
neighborhood and should show some remorse for your short sighted decision.
