JAG Grant Award for Tasers Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Rich McLane, Deputy Chief of Police Dennis Taylor, Interim City Manager SUBJECT: Accept Justice Assistance grant award from Montana Board of Crime Control to purchase 5 Tasers and related accessories. MEETING DATE: July 24, 2017 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent RECOMMENDATION: Accept Justice Assistance Grant Award for Bureau of Justice Assistance Project for $6,200 to purchase 5 Tasers and accessories. BACKGROUND: In March 2017, the Montana Board of Crime Control released a Request for Proposals for funds allowable under Justice Assistance Grant program. The use of JAG funds will support projects within the Bozeman Police Department that improves the effectiveness of our systems and enhance the safety of our officers and community. On April 10, 2017, the Bozeman City Commission gave authority to proceed with this grant application. On June 13, 2017, the City of Bozeman received notice that this grant was being awarded (upon acceptance) for $6,200 for the purchase of 5 Tasers and accessories. FISCAL EFFECTS: Approval of this proposal will have no adverse impacts on the current Police Department budget. Matching funds are not required by the funding agency. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
