The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in re~lar session in the Commission Room,
City Hell BUilding, Friday evening, ,June 29th, 1945, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those beIng
pTesen t were Ma YOT Heal y, Commis sioner Sorenson, Commis sioner Bus ch, Ci ty Manager Quinnell,
Ci ty Attorney Ai tken, City Engineer Thorpe and the Clerk, when the follow1n!2" proceedings
were had to-wit:
The minutes of the last rer,r:ular session were read, and it was moved by Commis::Iioner
Sorenson, seconded by Commi8sioner Busch tha t the minutes be approved 9S read, and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting- Aye being Mayor Healy,
Commissioner Busch and Commissioner Sorenson; those voting No, none.
Application for City License
The applicB tion of the Schoonover Texaco Sta tion for a one-half ye ar Ci ty License
was presented and read. It was moved by Commissioner Busch, seconded by Commissioner
Sorenson the t the applies tlon be approved and the license issued and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vot.e; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commi.ssioner
Busch and Commissioner Sorenson; those voting No, none.
Reports
The followinQ' reports for the month of June, 1945 were presented and read:
Water Collector
Librarian
and the Librarian's report for the month of Ma~T, 1945.
It was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Busch that the re-
ports be accepted and ordered riled and the motion was carried by the followin!3' Aye and
No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Commis8ioner Busch and Commissioner Soren-
son; those voting No, none.
Garbage Contract Renewal
The renewal of the contract with J. S. Miles for garba~e hauling and disposal for
the period ending June 30th, 1946, in the amount of $12,445.00 was presented and read.
The Manager explained that he had been un-ble to interest anyone in makinrr a lower bid,
and it was moved by Commissioner Busch, seconded by Commisst oner Sorenson that the Ma~lor
and the Clerk be authorized to sign the contr8ct for The Ci ty of Bozeman and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Healy, Com-
mis sioner Sorenson and Commis sioner Busch; those vo t:ing No, none.
Resolution No. 556
Maintenance Assessment
The Manal!er stated thqt this was the time and place set for the hearing of protests
to the final adoption of the resolution levying the parking maintenance for the year 1945.
He presented affidavit of publication of the notice, and stated that no protests had been
filed and no one was present to protest. Resolution No. 556 was presented, entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, LEVYING AND ASSESSING
A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF TAXES UPON ALL THE PROPERTY IN SPECIAL IMPROVEMf'~NT
DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF BOZEYAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STATE OF MONTANA, FOR
THE MAINTENANCE OF PARKINGS TO DEFRAY THE COST OF MAINTAINING THE PARKINGS
WITHIN SAID SPECIAL IMPROVENTENT DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN FOR TEE YEAR
1945.

lution be passed and adopted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote;

Resolution No. 557 -- Intention To Create SID No. 338
The Manager stated thst the City Attorney as instructed had prepared the resolution of
intention to create Special Improvement Diptrict No. 338, for the construction of a sanitary
sewer bet~een Eleventh & Thirteenth and Curtiss & Story Streets.
Resolution No. 557 was presented and read, entitled:

NUMBER 338" FOR THE PURPOSE OF INSTALLING SANITARY SEWERS IN CERTAIN STREETS

HERFINAFTEF SPECIFIED, AN0 SPECIALLY TO ASSESS THE ENTIRE COST AND EXPENSE OF

It was moved by Commissioner Busch, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the Resolu-
tion be passed and adopted; that the necessary notice be published, and the property owners
be notified as required and that July 20th, 1945 be set as the date for the hearing of pro-
tests and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vot.e; those votin,,,: Aye being
Mayor Healy, Commissioner Busch and Commissioner Sorenson; those voting No, none.
Traffic L1.&!hts
A resolu tlon from the Chamber of Commerce reques ting tha t the opera tion of the s to p-
and-go lights be resumed and that an additional stop-and-go light be installed at the cor-
ner of Grand and Main Street, was presented and read. After consideration of the resolution
by the City Commission, it was decided to start the operation of the traffic control the
firf1 t of the week, and the ma tter of the addi tional li p'h t was taken lJnder ad vi semen t .
Circus Gambling
A newspaper clipping mailed to the City Manager by H. G. Bolster relAtive to asserted
gambling activities and excessive charges by the Arthur Bros. Circus scheduled to show in
BozemaI', July 1, 1945 was presented and read. It was stated that additional police V'Duld
be employed dlJring the showing of the circus to discourarre unlawful practices.
Licens Ing Slot ~laclline s
A communication from M. J. Mee, Secretary of the Montana Municipal League relative to
licensing slot machines operating in clubs and fraternal organizations was presented and
read. The matter was taken under advisement.
Budget 1945-46
A comparative statement of departmental e7penditures for personal services for the
last two fiscal years, together with estimated expenditure for like purposes during the com-
ing fiscal year was presented to the City Commissioners for stlJdy. Salary schedules from
the City of Billin&!s were read to the Commission, and the Manager stated that more data on

Street -- [Jus t on North Rouse
Commis si oner Sorenson reported the t residen ts on North Rouse were compla ining of dUB t
condi tions, this street being used for detourinp' traffic during: the construe tion of the
over-pASS on Seventh Avenue. The Manager expla,ined tha t the Ci ty Street Department w0111d
try to spread some waste oil from service stations on this street in the near future to
relieve this dus t nuisance.
