The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room,
City Hall Building, Friday evening, April 20th, 1945, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being
present were Mayor Landoe, Commissioner Healy, Commissioner Busch, City Manager ~linnell,
City Attorney Aitken, Director of Finance Walter Davis, City Engineer Thorpe, and the
Clerk, when the following proceedings were had to-wit:
The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner

Healy, seconded by Mayor Landoe tha t the minutes be approv"d as read, and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and No votej those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe and
Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Petition to Rezone Block F; Storyls Addition
A petition of T. B. and Katharine F. Story requesting that Lots 19 to 26, inclusive,
the thirty feet east of Lot 26, and the 6 feet west of Lot 19j all in Block F; Story's
Addition be rezoned and changed from the "B" Residence Zone to Residence-Business Dis-
tr i c t No.2.
The map location of this tract was shown by City Engineer Thorpe, and Mr. Story
explained that the property was chiefly valuable for business purposes. Following con-
sideration by the Commission, it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Mayor Landoe
that the petition be referred to the Board of Ad.1ustment for investigation, and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe and
Commissioner Healyj those voting No, none.
Director of Finance Sanitary Inspector
Water Report by State Board of Health
and the City Manager's Quarterly report on operating costs.
It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Mayor Landoe that the reports be

The following reports for the month of March, 1945 were presented and read:

Resolution No. 552 -- Certifying Taxes
The Director of Finance explained that the Treasurer of Gallatin County intended to

take tax deed to certain properties within the City of Bozeman, and it therefore seemed
advisable to certify the balance of all unpaid special assessments on these properties,
in order that they might be included in the tax sales. This action having been approved

Examination of Depository Bonds
Cus todian' s receipts for depos i tory bonds offered as securi ty for the City's depos its

This is to certify that we, the Commission of The City of Bozeman in compli-
ance with the provisions of Section 4767, Political Code, R.C.M., 1921, as amended
by Chapter 49, Laws of 1929, and as amended by Chapter 23, Extraordinary Session
Law of 1933-34, have this day examined the receipts of the ~ederal Reserve Bank
of Minneapolis for the Depository Bonds held by the Director of Finance as above
listed as security for the deposits of City Funds held by the several banks of
Bozeman and find them to be as above sta ted.

Offer to Sell Property to City
A communioation from Mrs. C. E. Sime, offering to sell to The City of Bozeman certain
lots in Block 46, of the Park Addition, which adjoin the South Side Park, now owned by The
City of Bozeman was presented and read.
After discussion, it was decided to take the matter under advisement, for further
investigation as to the value and desirability of the premises for public purposes.
Leave of Absence - Mayor Landoe
A request for a leave of absence by Mayor H. B. Landoe was presented and read as follows:

of the City of Bozeman, M0ntana.
Dear Sirs:
This is to advise that I have been inducted into the armed
services of the United States and thAt I am to report. for induction on
April 26, 1945.
I therefore respectfully petition this Honorable body for a
leave of absence from MY present duties as Mayor of the City of
Bozeman, said leave to bec~me effective immediately upon the vrant-
ing of the same and to continue until sixty days after I shall have
been discharged from the Armed Services of the United States, or
until my term of office expires, whichever may be the shorter.

Commissioner Busch and Commissioner Healy expressed regret that the wars demands
made Commissioner Landoe's action unavoidable and all joined in the hope that Mayor
Landoe's absence would be but temporary, and that he would soon return to his post
as City Commissioner.
It was thereupon moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commis s ioner Busch the t
the leave of absence be granted to Commissioner Landoe, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Commissi0ner Healy and Commissioner
Busch; those voting No, none. Landoe not voting.
Sorenson named as City CommissionAr
City Attorney Aitken explained that the vacancy in the City Commission caused by
Commissioner Landoe being called into the armed services should be filled at this time.
Mr. Aitken stated further that similar vacancies had, on former occasions, been filled
by appointment of the candidate having the next highest number of votes to the success-
ful candidate in the last election, but that this was not mandatory.
All Commissioners expressing their approval of the appointment for Commissioner of
Chas. W. Sorenson to fill the office vacated by Commissioner Landoe, it was moved by Com-
missioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Busch that Mr. Chas. W. Sorenson be named as
City Commissioner to hold office for the unexpired term of H. B. Landoe, or until Mr.
Landos is dischar~ed from the armed forces of the United States and makes application for
reinstatement as Commissioner, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No
vote; those voting Aye being Commissioner Healy and Commissioner BUSCh; those vo~ng No,
none. Commissioner Landoe, not voting.
Traffic -- Repainting Parking Strips
Mr. Geo. Schraeder appeared before the Commission and requested that a "No Parking"
sign be installed at the crosswalk on Main Street between Bozeman and Rouse Avenues, and
also th8t at the time for repainting the parking lanes on Main Street that the angle of
parking be the same as in former years.
