Subject: Black-Olive Building
Honorable Commissioners and Mayor of Bozeman, I would like to show my support for the approval of the Black-Olive building in its current form. It meets codes and adds greatly needed housing to the core. Additional buildings of this size, both larger AND smaller should be allowed as is granted by the codes. It is everyone’s responsibility to share in the growth of Bozeman and is not the right of current neighbors to keep others out or to take the rights of property owners or developers who willingly work with the city to help Bozeman grow as we all want it to. Though this building is not an ‘Architectural Gem’, that is the fault of the DRB in
trying to limit the types of design, however well meaning, always reduces the creativity of those involved. We do want great looking buildings of a wide variety
and though we can blame developers for their lack of creativity, ultimately, it is our own narrow focus and hard line approach that limits any approaches that may
be seen as easy.
I would also like to suggest that the planning department put the current code rewrite on hold to allow the inclusion of ‘Buffer zones’ between B3 and
neighborhoods, within those neighborhoods, to enable a transitionary area between needed density and residential.
Please forward this to the DRB.
