October 27th, 1944
The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room,
City Hall Buildin~, Friday evening, October 27th, 1944, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being
present were Mayor Landoe, Commissioner Healy, City Manager Quinnell, City Attorney Aitken,
Director of Finance Walter Davis, City Engineer Thorpe, and the Clerk, when the following
proceedings were had to-wit:
The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commi :=,sioner
Healy, seconded by Mayor Landoe that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe, Commissioner
Healy; those voting No, none.
Application for City License
The application of Stephan A. Kaselnak for ~-year City License was presented and
read. It was moved by Commiss loner Heal y, seconded by Commissioner Landoe tha t the appli-
cation be approved and the license issued and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and Novote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe and CommiRsioner Healy; those votl.ng
No, none.
Street Light a t 4th and Hayes
A communication from Mrs. Carl H. Peterson~ requesting a street light at the corner
of Fourth and Hayes Street was presented and read. The Manager reported that he and the
Ci ty Engineer had inves tiFta ted and found thB tat this corner it was two blocks from any
other street light and that several housos would be benefitted by the light if Mrs.
Peterson's request is granted. It was moved by Commissioner Heal:,', seconded by Mayor
Landoe that a street light be placed at this corner, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe and Commissioner Healy;
those voting No, none.
Request for Free use Of Community Room At Amory
Tv~r. Leo Massman and Bert Griffin, appeared before the COMFiif'2ion and reporte!! that
a federal agricul tural census would be taken some time after the first of the year; that
the headauarters for this district, comprising some seveenteen counties, might be located
in Boz eman provided tha t sui table nuarters could be secured, rent free, and tha t the
office space needed would be approximately 600 square feet. They stated the census would
take from four to six months to complete; that a supervisor, an assistant and sevs'ral
clerks would be employed for the work and sUS!:f!.'ested that the City furnish the Community
Room in the Armory for this purpose. free of charge.
It was explained that this room has an area of only 456 square feet, and that the
resolution setting forth the rental rates for armory space does not make any provisions
for free rent to governmental aqencies.
After discus sion, it was decided tha t before asking the Ci ty Commission to take
o"ficia 1 ac tion in the IDa tter, the gen tlemen should see if the room is large enough to
serve their purpose and then submit more definite information as to the number of em-
ployees, the amount of the payroll, and other benefits that would come to the people of
Bozeman for this exclusive use of the Community Room.
