HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-11-24 180 Bozeman, Montana November 24th, 1944 The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Friday evening, November 24th, 1944, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being present were Mayor Landoe, Commissioner Healy, Commissioner Busch, City Manager Quinnell, City Attorney Aitke~, Director of Finance Walter Drois, City Engineer Thorpe, and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had to-wit: The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Busch that the minutes be approved as read, and the mo- tion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe, Commis sioneil'Healy and Commissioner Busch; those voting No, none. Communication -- Highway Department The Manager stated he had received a letter from the State Highway Department in an- swer to his inquiry of May 5th relative to the erection of traffic control signs on 8th Avenue. The letter was presented and read; it stated that the Department did not have an agreement with the City regarding this matter and that as no Federal or State funds were u.sed in the improvement of this Avenue, the department did not claim jurisdiction and the City was free to regulate the traffic on this avenue as it saw fit. The Manager also reported that in talking with the Chief Engineer of the Highway Department, he gained the impression that the Department felt that the City's request for Rouse Street improvement and the extension of Main Street was justified and that preliminary surveys would be started on the projects as soon as the Department had re- cei ved assurance from the Federal Government that funds for the purpose wOlJld be made available. SID No. 337 -- Bid Rejected. .The Manager presented written communications from J. T. Crawley, Mr. & Mrs. William o. Garmer, and John W. King, property owners in S. I. D. No. 337, recently created for the purpose of constructing a sanitary sewer on Tamarack Street between Rouse and Church Avenues, in which they opposed the construction of said sewer at the prices stated in the bid submitted at the meeting of the City Commission on November 3rd, 1944, which were found to be much higher that the city engineer's estimate covering the proposed work. Thereupon, it was moved by Commissioner dusch, seconded by Commissioner Healy that the bid of the Standard Construction Company for the const~Jction of a sanitary sewer in S.LD. No. 337, be rejected and tffit the certified check submitted with the proposal be returned to the bidder and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe, Commiss:'.oner Healy and Commis sioner Busch; those voting No, none. Airport -- Brady Tract . The City Attorney presented the final order of condemnation of the tract of land adjoining the Airport known as the "Slaughter House Tract" or "Brady Tract" and stated that it had been recorded with the County Clerk and Recorder. A communication from the County Treasurer was also read, stating that delinquent taxes and interest to November 30th, 1944, on the said property amounted to $74.63. It was decided to take the matter of the delinquent taxes up with the County Commissioners before msking payment, and try to get the county, as part owner, to pay part of the bill. 1 I 1 1 I 1 18"' Mr. L. S. Poston, City Attorney of Louisville, Kentucky, was a visitor and gave an interest~ng talk on his city's activities. Ad .10urnment There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Busch that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe, Commissioner Busch and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
